2008 Renard Grenache Blanc
We're bringing Grenache Blanc into the spotlight! Grower, Kevin De Leu, devotes his Alta Mesa vineyards in Lodi to the more obscure varietals and has graciously provided us with the 2008 Grenache Blanc grapes. Notably, De Leu practices sustainable farming with minimal intervention. We were able to pick the grapes at lower sugars thus maintaining the acidity, allowing us to draw out the lovely bright citrus and apple flavors and express the site. A gentle whole cluster press followed by a slow cool primary fermentation aids in retaining the fruit and vibrancy, and no secondary malolactic fermentation to muddle the fruit, along with a Chablis like life in stainless steel, ensures an exceptional lively and intense wine.

Sweet, vibrant, white floral notes in the nose mix with granny smith apple and tarragon. Fleshy, baked apple complements bright, crisp citrus and candied lemon peel on the palate with a vivacious acidity and apparent weight. It finishes with a good grip and vibrant phenolics that allow pairing with a multitude of foods. We recently had the wine with Fannie Bay oysters and the briney flesh played well with the fresh and vivid wine.
